In the words of GMK, "Be Brilly." The Seattle local oozes classic Northwest hip hop and packs a punch with his simple yet inspiring lyrics. I've had the pleasure of meeting GMK, and seeing him perform live alongside Eighty4Fly and Dyme Def. Let me tell you something, I don't remember the last time I have seen someone with that much energy, hopping around the stage like a bat out of hell, get a crowd THAT hyped. His presence in person is exactly like he is on stage, exuberant, and that's saying something about an artist. His hit "Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Left" has a new and refreshing flow. Maybe because it's real. People can relate to his music, and that's why he's so dope. Recently, GMK had a release party promoting "Say Anything," a compilation of five songs that center around the 80s feel of the "Say Anything" movie featuring John Cusack, based out of Seattle. Case and point, "N Your Eyes," a sweet and sexy remix of Peter Gabriel's hit. "Say Anything" has a timeless and nostalgic feel, it's infectious. GMK is potent, his lyrics are real. This is why I'm so glad I live in such a thriving city pulsating with real hip hop, I've been able to build an appreciation for all, and GMK is no exception.
