Artist Spotlight: Ravenna Woods

Innovative. Sharp. Ambitious. All of this and more describe the trio of Ravenna Woods. Since the release of their full length album "Demons and Lakes," they've been enjoying a nice amount of popularity on KEXP and favorable in the local music scene. I would describe them as eerie folk with intricate, finger picking melodies and infectious vocals that you can't help but be completely enamored with. Their latest "Valley of the Headless Men" album came out in May of last year that reminds me of the likes of Fences and The Cave Singers. Muy bien. The talent of their instrumentation and rhythm is intriguing enough to keep anyone entertained, no matter who the audience. After watching them perform at the Doe Bay Festival on Orcas Island through a YouTube video, I am impressed. They have a never non-traditional approach to their music, using a xylophone and super simple percussion that encapsulates what truly is, indie music. I have yet to read one negative review about these guys, and apparently seeing them live is an experience like no other. For now, I'll have to live off their albums to tide me over.

Check out the video yourself! I really need to go to the Doe Bay Festival, these clips are too much of a tease.
