There is going to be a sonic blood bath tonight at the EMP Museum. That's because the 11th annual Sound Off battle of the bands kicks off tonight pitting 4 very talented bands against each other for underage music supremacy. Tonight's battle will feature the acoustic folk duo The Deep Wake, Tacoma surf rockers Dungeon Science, the smooth jazz styling of Sam Lachow, and lastly the electronic fun rap of The Unibroz. Just like a newspaper endorsing a presidential candidate, the Puget Playlist has chosen to stand behind one of these locals groups and declare them to be our personal favorite. Hip-hop jazz fusion creator, Sam Lachow, has earned those honors. With his group's unique brand of dingy jazz hall saxophone, head bouncing drum beats and smokey smooth hip-hop verses, Sam Lachow is reminiscent of old skewl NYC bands Digable Planets and Brand Nubian. Unlike the other musicians, Sam Lachow brings a nostalgic element to the table that none of the other bands can touch. And when you add some sultry female R&B chores lines and you have something that will stick in your head for days.
